SONAR Music Projects

SONAR Music Projects are educational support materials designed for use with Cakewalk SONAR programs. They are intended for teachers to use with Key Stage 3 Music classes. Selected projects could also be used with other teaching groups as an introduction to technology skills. The materials are compatible with most programs in the SONAR series, including SONAR LE (the version that is included with EDIROL hardware products).

There are 10 projects involving a range of musical and technical skills. Some projects focus on exploring or creating rhythm patterns, melodic phrases and sounds:

• Rhythm Patterns and Loops
• Melodic Ideas
• Exploring Sounds

 

Some projects involve manipulating or editing recorded material, or composing ideas within a structural framework:

• Variations
• Musical Form and Structure
• Mixing

Other projects let students apply techniques from earlier work in a more creative context:

• Arranging
• Chocolate Bar Advert
• Visit to a Theme Park
• Video Soundtrack

Some projects have a choice of two activity levels.

Each project includes:

• Teacher notes
• Student project sheet(s)
• SONAR files

A step-by-step SONAR Skills Guide introduces the program functions used in various projects.Some audio (and video) content is also provided, so students can start work right away!

SONAR Music Projects are included with Academic Editions of SONAR Studio and SONAR Producer. UK teachers can also request a free CD that includes the project materials and the current trial version of SONAR.
Note: SONAR is available for the PC platform. The current version can also run on Intel-based Macs using Boot Camp.
